  Edward was born on the Isle of Man in 1857, and was moved to Liverpool with his parents in about 1858. He worked at the docks in Liverpool and as a mariner. When he was about 20, he was involved in a fight in Runcorn in which he had a beating from one member of a gang of men and then when another member of the gang took over Edward knifed the man and he was subsequently convicted and imprisoned in 1877 for unlawful wounding. He went to prison, first at Chester Castle from Chester Assizes on 21 July 1877 and was transferred to Brixton prison on 21April 1878. He stayed there until 27 June 1879 when he was transferred to Pentonville prison. He was discharged on 2 July 1881 back to Liverpool. He married Grace Williams on 24 October 1883 aged 26. His occupation is recorded at that time as Mariner and his father as a Shoe maker. Both he and Grace were living at 3 House 5 Court, Rutter Street. He was living at 43 Heath Street, in the Mount Pleasant district of Liverpool, when Grace was born in 1897. In 1909, when his son William was married, he was shown as a Meter Maker (he worked for the Liverpool Gas Company in various jobs) His wife, Grace, died while they were living at Heath Street on 31 December 1912. He re-married later to Jennie who was still alive when he died in 1941. He lived at Heath Street until around 1929/30 when he moved to Cae Glas, Llanddeusant, Anglesey, where he died on 7 January 1941, aged 83 - this was about a mile from where Grace, his first wife, was born. The death certificate describes his occupation as a Mariner in the Merchant Service. [1]
