- He signed a lease with Winchester College to the Rent of South View Farm house and 4 accompaning tithes, InNails Field (252) and in the Combe(276,284b and 284a) for a Rent of £35 per year, the land totaled 21 acres. The lease was witnessed by his future brother in law, William Walbrin, who would go on to marry James' sister Matilda in the Autumn.

In todays money this is around a £60. Another carrier was also fined 40 shillings as he moved 4 pigs with out a license, on the same day.

- A Dennis Ace was bought from another old-established operator, House of Hilton. RV6946 had a small protruding snout-like bonnet with small wheels set back, which led to the model being commonly known as "The Flying Pig". Its body was in poor condition but after some refurbishment it was fit for service.
