- After James died, Nellie, Joyce, Alan and Rene, had to leave Southview, as James was the named tennant for the farm. Winchester College, did provide a new property, the house called Hit or Miss. Hit or Miss house, had previously been a Pub, and its name derived from the fact that sometime the mail coach stopped there and some times it didn't, a hit or miss affair. When the family moved in the whole place still stunk of beer and stale tobaco.

- The Rev H Brynford conducted the service with Mrs Barter at the organ for the hymns "Abide with me" and "Now the day is over". It was a well attended service with many familiar Sydling names in attendance in addition to Family Members.
The newspaper report opens with
"Mrs Crabb had lived in Sydling since 1918, having come to South View, where both she and her late husband farmed for many years. Mrs Crabb was also in business as the local bus proprietor for many years. She is survived by two daughters"
